Upcoming June SLU Community Council Meeting & Elections [Virtual]

The SLU Community Council will be hosting the next meeting on June 30th from 5pm-6:30 PT. We encourage all those who are able to join us for updates from the council and speakers from NBBJ and Sustainable Living Partnerships. We will also be hosting our board elections to fill open seats on the board.

To be eligible for the board, individuals must:

  1. Have attended a SLU Community Council meeting at least twice in the past twelve (12) months

  2. Live or work in South Lake Union

  3. Submit an application that includes the background of the applicant and reason for interest in joining the SLU Community Council Board. Applications should be one page or less.

For consideration, please submit Board nominations to info@slucommunitycouncil.org by June 23, 2020.

The South Lake Union Community Council hopes you, your family and —friends are healthy and safe during these unprecedented times. Due to COVID-19 outbreak, the South Lake Union Community Council will be cancelling the April and May meeting.  Seattle Department of Neighborhoods updates:

People’s Academy for Community Engagement (PACE) will be paused for 2020. In the meantime, PACE plans to go digital beginning late spring. Community engagement is more important than ever, and our tools and resources can be helpful during this time of social distancing and staying at home. You can now sign up to receive weekly COVID-19 updates through Alert Seattle. Text “CovidSeattle” to 67283 to sign up for Alert Seattle and receive weekly updates on social distancing guidance, and programs and resources to support residents impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

February Council Meeting - Tuesday, February 4th

The South Lake Union Community Council will be hosting our next meeting on Tuesday, February 4th, 2020 from 5:00-6:30pm at the 415 Westlake Ave N. This month, we will be joined by SDOT Program Manager Stefan Winkler to discuss the SDOT Scooter Pilot.

The Community Council will have updates from our standing committees, recapping what the council has been up to this last month, including updates on Community Engagement, Policy and Planning, and Design Review.

January Council Meeting - Tuesday, January 7th *New Location*

Please join us for the January SLU Community Council Meeting from 5-6:30pm at Cascade People’s Center, 309 Pontius Ave N, Seattle, WA 98109. Please note this is a new location for the monthly meeting.

This month, we will be joined by the Department of Neighborhoods as well as Anna Bauer, Building Supervisor of the Cascade People’s Center.

Meet the Candidates for Seattle City Council District #7

Both finalists in the upcoming November General Election running for Seattle City Council District #7 will speak to area residents on Tuesday October 1, 2019 at 415 Westlake Ave N., Seattle 98109 from 5-6:30PM. The public is invited to attend. 

Seattle District 7 includes; Belltown, Briarcliff, Cascade, China Town/ID, Denny Regrade, Queen Anne, South Lake Union, Uptown, West Edge, and Westlake neighborhoods – making it one of the fastest growing areas of downtown Seattle with 84,463 residents and 54,745 housing units according to the Census Bureau. SLU is home to Amazon, Google, Facebook and numerous high-tech and health science industries. 

Questions for candidates from several community councils in District 7 will be solicited. The forum will be moderated by Mark Baumgarten, Political Editor at KCTS9/Crosscut and host of the Crosscut Talks pod-cast. The format follows a traditional moderated question/answer session with timed responses. Following the 6:30PM conclusion candidates will meet with area residents informally.
